Judge transfers

The Texas teen known for his "affluenza" defense when he was given probation for killing four people in a 2013 drunken-driving crash will be transferred to adult court by his 19th birthday in April.

If he violates his adult probation during that time, he could get up to 10 years in prison for each of the four people killed in the wreck.

He will then have another hearing when a district judge will set conditions for the remainder of his adult probation.

The first of five court dates, during which a judge will check that Tonya Couch is abiding by the terms of her bond, has not been scheduled.

The Dallas Morning News adds that Couch's lawyer did not contest Friday's ruling, saying "he felt that his client has been treated fairly up to this point".

The son and brother of two former USA presidents was humble when asked if he would match the presidency of his father, George H.W. The Democratic race is staid by comparison, though enlivened by Sanders' contention this week that he was once an honorary woman.

Couch fled to Mexico with his mother in early December after a video surfaced purportedly showing him at a party where a beer-drinking game was being played, a possible parole violation.

Couch's mother, Tonya Couch, was placed in house arrest until her felony charges are brought to trial.

An adult court judge will decide the conditions of Couch's probation, which could include between 120 to 180 days in jail. If he violates that probation he faces up to 10 years in prison for each person killed in the 2013 crash - a total of 40 years. The penalty for which is 120 days in jail. "But there have been no, in my presence, feelings of remorse or questions of guilt or feeling sorry for the people whose lives he's ended", Anderson said.

In mid-December, a Texas warrant was issued for Couch to be taken into custody after his probation officer couldn't reach him. "We need help. They have so much money, they need to pay".

Couch's attorney Scott Brown addressed reporters. Ethan Couch's half-brother Steven McWilliams also attended the transfer hearing. I won’t say that, ” Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson said. Couch received probation for causing the deaths, spurring outrage, while the affluenza defense was widely ridiculed.
