Harper Lee, 'To Kill a Mockingbird' author, dies at 89
It was released in July 1960 and was adapted into a 1962 movie of the same name, starring Gregory Peck in an Oscar-winning performance as the courageous attorney Atticus Finch.
Lee quit giving interviews in 1964 and rarely made public appearances but in November 2007 went to the White House to accept a Presidential Medal of Freedom from President George W Bush, who called her book "a gift to the entire world".
The death of To Kill A Mockingbird author Harper Lee has brought many comments and appreciation for her work from all over the world, and there are also some close connections to her iconic novel in Rochester.
Born Nelle Harper Lee in 1926, the author was the youngest of four children.
