Ruskell to Cleveland gaining steam?
There’s been no shortage of talk about Cleveland head coach Eric Mangini and his continued employment with the Browns in recent weeks, but that conversation may soon take a back seat to one that links former Seattle general manager Tim Ruskell to Cleveland’s opening in the same position.
According to Tony Rossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, Browns owner Randy Lerner has a very high opinion of Ruskell and believes he would be a good fit in Cleveland. Lerner also feels that Ruskell would keep Mangini on as the team’s head coach, which is said to be a major factor in who the next GM will be for the team.
The Browns had previously been linked with former Seattle head coach Mike Holmgren, who has stated a desire to get back into the game, albeit from the vantage point of the front office instead of the sidelines. Holmgren would not likely sign off on Mangini sticking around though, and would expect total control of the team if he is brought into the fold.
Discussions between the Browns and Ruskell have not yet begun in earnest, but that could change fairly soon, depending on how quickly Lerner chooses to move to get his next GM in place.
As always, we’ll keep you posted when more information breaks.

Is Ruskell the answer to the Browns problems? Maybe. What I see is poor decisions. Good teams make good decisions and poor teams make bad decisions. This team isn't hexed, its just plain poor decisions by people. Mr. Lerner needs to do his homework and make a great decision on this to turn this team around. Mr Mangini should have absolutely no input into this hiring. Mr Lerner is getting clobbered my the fans and the press. That comes with ownership of a poor team. Mr Lerner, do you want it to stop? Make a good choice for yourself, the team and your fans.
