Holmgren, Browns discussion heating up
11:15 pm – ESPN is now indicating Holmgren wants to have his future position in the NFL finalized by Christmas, which gives him the next ten days to decide between taking on a major reclamation project in Cleveland or going back home to Seattle and righting the ship there so to speak.
9:55 am – One day removed from having a potential landing spot in San Francisco shot down, former Seattle head coach Mike Holmgren may have found a new opening to his liking, as he continued his talks with Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner this morning.
Holmgren has been linked to the same position with the Seahawks, but seems to be open to taking a much more challenging role with the Browns, who have struggled immensely this season. It’s not known if he would be comfortable keeping head coach Eric Mangini around for another season, which has been speculated as being a sticking point for anyone Lerner chooses to hire in the GM position.
Having total control of the franchise could be intriguing for Holmgren as he would be able to mold the Browns into his own image; something he may not be able to do in Seattle with a front office staff already in place that seems to make decisions as a whole rather than allowing their general manager to do so.
We’ll keep you posted on this as more information breaks…
