Eagles CB Hanson suspended
With the rise in sales of over the counter supplements in recent years causing a lowering of standards in the industry, it’s no wonder that NFL players are strongly cautioned against using them, but that hasn’t stopped the league from continuing to enforce its strict policies against banned susbtances.
Eagles CB Joselio Hanson is the latest player to find that out the hard way, receiving a four game suspension for testing positive for a banned diuretic, an agent that increases the flow of urine, and is commonly associated with efforts to hide the use of steroids and other substances. Hanson’s positive test came after last season’s NFC Championship tilt with the Cardinals, but the league did not indicate a reason for the delay in doling out his punishment.
Obviously this does not mean that Hanson was taking steroids, or anything of the sort, but the league has remained steadfast in their commitment to eliminate unfair advantages in the game, so the suspension comes as no surprise. That said, a lawsuit on the part of Hanson could very well be forthcoming in the next few days, given the success of a similar case involving Vikings DTs Kevin and Pat Williams, who tested positive for a banned diuretic last fall, only to sue the league and avoid the suspension mandated by commisioner Goodell.
Hanson has been a valuable member of the team in Philadelphia this season, coming off the bench to spell starters Sheldon Brown and Asante Samuel, and would likely be a starter for many other teams at this point. He currently has 29 tackles and one interception.
