New England looking for a spot in the top ten

The always reliable Peter King (Sports Illustrated) weighed in this morning on his blog with the latest rumblings from around the league. Here’s a summary of what he’s hearing:

  • The Patriots are working hard to trade up to the eighth or ninth pick in the first round, offering Jacksonville their first-round pick and the middle of their three second round picks (the 23rd and 47th picks overall) for the Jaguars selection. Apparently, there is a player they covet that will only be available in that range of picks, although it’s not known who that is right now. My guess is B.J. Raji… we’ll see tomorrow though.
  • Mark Sanchez will hold the key to most of the first round depending on where he’s available. If he’s still on the board at #8 overall, look for a major trade to go down in a hurry.
  • The Chiefs are torn between taking Aaron Curry and Tyson Jackson. Who can blame them for that?
  • Oakland should end up picking between two speedy wide receivers in Darrius Heyward-Bey or Jeremy Maclin at #7 overall.
