The much-discussed failed drug tests for Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin and North Carolina wide receiver Brandon Tate have been confirmed by two sources to FoxSports.com, and could lead to the two players falling down the rankings in this weekend’s draft. Both players apparently tested positive for marijuana while they attended the 2009 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, IN.
Of the two, Harvin has the most to lose as a result of the failed test, as he was widely considered to be a top 25 pick in the draft, but now he may slip out of contention in the first round if teams in the later stages decide to avoid the risk of drafting a player with known character concerns.
Tate was expected to be taken somewhere between the late second and early fourth round, and it’s doubtful that will change all that much at this point in the process. He will likely be drafted towards the end of that projection though as a precaution against any future substance abuse.
