“The Fridge” in serious condition; doctors expect full recovery

The Associated Press is reporting that former Chicago Bears great William “Refrigerator” Perry is still listed as being in serious condition at a South Carolina hospital, after he suffered complications from Guillain-Barré syndrome, a chronic inflammation disorder of the peripheral nerves.

Perry will long be remembered for scoring a touchdown for the Bears in Super Bowl XX in 1985, plunging over the goal line late in the third quarter to give Chicago a commanding 44-3 lead over the underdog New England Patriots. That TD denied the late great Walter Payton a chance to score a touchdown of his own in the Super Bowl.

Perry is expected to make a full recovery from the complications according to his nephew, Purnell Perry.

1 comment to “The Fridge” in serious condition; doctors expect full recovery

  • “Lone touchdown for the Bears in Super Bowl XX?” Time for some fact checking. Matt Suhey, Jim McMahon (2) and Reggie Phillips all scored TD’s for the Bears besides Perry. What will be remembered is that Perry scored a TD and the late great Walter Payton did not.

    - Sorry about that Boomer… I meant to change that before I finalized the post, and must have missed it. Fixed it now though… thanks!
