Dallas bids Williams adieu

A few days back, Dallas safety Roy Williams made it clear that he wanted out. Today the Cowboys made his wish come true when they released the seven year veteran, drafted by Dallas in the first round back in 2002.

According to Len Pasquarelli (ESPN), the Cowboys brass decided to let Williams go earlier this morning, saving themselves close to $2 million on their salary cap in the process, and honoring Williams’ desire to play elsewhere in the process.

Williams is best when he plays near the line of scrimmage in run defense and as a result he has become a liability in pass coverage that may cause teams to think twice before bringing him into the fold. That being said, he should find a new gig fairly soon given his ability to make plays in the right situation, although it’s doubtful that he’ll find the kind of money he’s likely to be looking for.
