First date? Lions take Stafford out on the town
In the course of the pre-draft evaluation process, teams typically do their best to wine and dine several top level players they may or may not end up selecting on draft day. While it’s a fairly good indicator of which players a team is looking to draft, it may or may not translate into a selection when that team is on the clock.
Last night was no exception to that rule, when the Lions snatched Georgia QB Matt Stafford from the Scouting Combine hotel and treated him to dinner at St. Elmo’s Steak House in downtown Indianapolis.
Now the casual observer would read deeply into this and begin all sorts of rumors claiming Stafford will the man at #1 overall, but this is likely the first of many such intimate discussions that will take place between premier collegiate players and Detroit’s brass before the draft commences late in April, so don’t run out and buy your Stafford jerseys just yet Lions honks.
