France expels Russian far-right agitator from Euro 2016

The group of six men set upon a trio of Spaniards outside Cologne cathedral, in Germany.

The suspects aged 26 to 30 years were making a stop at the western city of Cologne after leaving Marseille, where the worst violence at a worldwide tournament since the 1998 World Cup in France erupted last Saturday between Russian and English football thugs.

"The people were on their way to the airport in the evening to go back to Moscow", the spokesperson said.

One of the men sustained a broken nose after being kicked in the face in the unprovoked attack.

Police then arrived on the scene, taking six of the Russian supporters into custody, while one reportedly managed to evade the attention of the authorities. Another man was arrested as he prepared to board a flight to Ibiza, Spain, and was taken to a police station.

"What we don't know is if they have been there [Marseille] or were deported prior to the incidents", a police spokesperson said.

The men are believed to be part of an extremist Russian group and had flown to Marseille on June the 10th, the day when the competition began.

A group of 20 Russian Federation football fans will be deported from France on Saturday after French authorities accused them of being involved in hooliganism.
