Hillary Clinton just called out Donald Trump in a triumphant victory speech

Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton easily cruised to a sweeping victory in crucial South Carolina Democratic primary bringing her campaign back on track heading into Super Tuesday contests in a eleven states.

"To South Carolina, to the volunteers at the heart of our campaign, to the supporters who power it: thank you", Clinton wrote on Twitter.

The huge margin of victory - she won almost 74 per cent of the vote - will extend her lead over Sanders in delegates needed to clinch the Democratic nomination.

But her campaign has looked on a firmer footing since she beat her socialist rival in Nevada this week and her whole family camped out in the Palmetto State to ensure nothing could go wrong this time.

Clinton's campaign, feeling more confident than it did after a narrow win in Iowa and a double-digit defeat in New Hampshire, has started to evaluate how it would run against the now smaller Republican field and what each candidate would mean for Clinton.

Eight years ago, she lost the SC primary overwhelmingly to then Senator Barack Obama. Bernie Sanders were vying for the state's delegates as they tried to secure the nomination Saturday in the SC primary.

The South Carolina win is Clinton's third in the first four primary contests.

Marielle Heller won the award for best first feature for " The Diary of a Teenage Girl ", starring Bel Powley in a coming-of-age drama.

Clinton's margin of victory in SC was a staggering 48 points with strong support coming mainly from black voters.

"Tomorrow this campaign goes national", she told cheering supporters.

Polls and delegate math are working in the former secretary of state's favor.

This time around, Clyburn endorsed Clinton, and her husband was well-received as he traveled the state on her behalf. Exit polls showed 6 in 10 voters in Saturday's SC primary were black.

Clinton won big with black voters.

Saturday's result was a foregone conclusion of sorts, with Sanders bolting early Saturday for Texas and then Minnesota, two states in play next Tuesday when the Vermont senator needs to keep his head above water if he wants to challenge Clinton deeper into the nomination race. Clinton carried black voters by more than 70 percentage points on Saturday, a week after winning African-Americans in Nevada by north of 50 points.

It was the Clinton brand that proved impossible for Sanders to overcome.

She also referenced Trump's repeated calls to build a large wall along the southern border of the U.S. to prevent illegal immigration from Mexico.

HARI SREENIVASAN: And why have the Clintons focused so heavily on this and what do they hope to take with them to the next set of states after this win?

Six in 10 white women supported Clinton, while a majority of white men said they voted for Sanders. She won 82% of voters who earn less than $30,000 a year. Among voters between the ages of 17 and 29, 51% voted for Sanders and 46% voted for Clinton.

In her speech in Columbia, South Carolina, Clinton took aim at Trump with an effective rhetorical one-two, and indeed three-four.

The rout was both politically and psychologically meaningful for Hillary and her allies, who have been waiting for a moment that validated her candidacy with the level of unqualified intensity that SC delivered.

"In politics on a given night, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose", Sanders said after arriving in Minnesota. Super Tuesday will be followed soon after by votes in Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska and ME on March 5.
