Hillary Clinton Scores a Huge Win in SC

In last week's South Carolina Republican primary, 96 per cent of voters were white.

Sanders failed to carry over momentum from his 22-percentage-point win in New Hampshire on February 9. Her only loss came in New Hampshire, which borders Sanders' home state of Vermont. Democrats will vote in 11 states and American Samoa, with 865 delegates to be decided.

As Clinton's race with Sanders has grown tighter, she's moved to fully embrace Obama, who remains popular with Democrats and particularly black voters.

Mr Sanders's passionate campaign has also excited young voters, building a fundraising juggernaut that relies on small, personal donations in contrast to the more conventional big-money backers of Mrs Clinton.

Bill Clinton has been well-received in the state and Hillary Clinton has won the endorsement of James Clyburn, the influential black congressman who stayed neutral in the 2008 primary. Clinton said at her rally in Columbia. Early exit polls showed 7 in 10 voters want the next president to continue Obama's policies. The crowd roared, as well it should.

At turns, Clinton was exultant and grateful, ebullient and gracious. Though Sanders said Clinton's deep relationships in SC make it a "hard state", he has vowed to fight to cut her lead - and, thereby, highlight his own relevance. At least, perhaps, until a possible general election.

"Despite what you hear, we don't need to make America great again", Clinton said at a rally Saturday night, alluding to Republican front-runner Donald Trump and his campaign slogan. "America has never stopped being great".

Clinton also made it clear she was ready to incorporate much of Sanders' populist, anti-Wall Street theme into her own campaign.

Sanders, in perhaps a symbolic moment, had issued a concession statement minutes after the polls closed from a plane flying to Minnesota and lacking a Wi-Fi connection.

In Rock Hill, 49-year-old loan adjuster Michelle Roseborough voted for Hillary Clinton, citing her experience.

"A blow-out win for Clinton won't just be bad publicity for Sanders; it will drop him ever further behind in the delegate count", notes OregonLive. If you're with me, chip in $1 right now, and let's go win this nomination. "Tuesday, over 800 delegates are at stake, and we intend to win many, many of them".

Although he wasn't in South Carolina Saturday, his campaign organized several watch parties across South Carolina to view the returns - one of which was here at Pearlz Oyster Bar in downtown Columbia. In South Carolina, he was still supported by majorities of white voters who cared most about a candidate being honest or caring about people like them.
