The Texas Rangers and Ian Desmond agree to one-year deal

But he slumped badly with the Washington Nationals in the final year before free agency, needing a late surge to finish with a career-low.

Free agent shortstop Ian Desmond has signed a one-year deal with the Texas Rangers, reports James Wagner of the Washington Post.

No goals for Augsburg or Liverpool
Augsburg are likely to sit deep at Anfield and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp warned his team they would have to attack.

Josh Hamilton could see less playing time than previously expected when he returns from injury, due to the Texas Rangers ' acquisition of Ian Desmond.

Desmond, 30, has played a total of two games in the outfield in his seven major league seasons, but with the options for starting jobs at short limited, his camp told reporters earlier this winter that he was willing to consider playing other positions.

As of publishing, no financial details of the reported deal in place have been released.

"There are two spots that are open right now: A backup center fielder and one to get some at-bats in left field", assistant general manager Thad Levine said prior to dealing for Desmond.

Blackburn 'Fell Short' Of BBC Inquiry Standards
Meanwhile, Lord Hall said DJ Tony Blackburn had "parted company" with the BBC after failing to fully co-operate with the inquiry. The review cost 6.5 million pounds (US$9 million) and is 1,000 pages and three volumes long.

The deal will cost the Rangers their 19 pick from the 2016 Draft, but they could be able to recoup that pick by making Desmond a qualifying offer following this season. Yikes. That's $7.8 million less than the value of the qualifying offer Desmond rejected at the beginning of the offseason.
