Pakistan registers FIR in Pathankot attack case

Punjab Police lodged a case against unknown terrorists for the attack on an Indian Airbase in Pathankot.

According to our correspondent, the FIR has been registered against unidentified terrorists in Gujranwala Counter Terrorism Police Station under sections 302, 324 and 109 of Pakistan Penal Code and section 7 of Anti-terrorism Act. As per reports, Janjua contacted Doval to update him on the SIT probe and to work out possible dates for talks between the foreign secretaries of the two countries.

The sources claimed that the team has yet not interrogated the Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Maulana Masood Azhar, who was taken into informal "protective custody" without any legal formality.

The Indain air base in Pathankot was attacked on 2 January 2016; militants launched an attack on the Indian Air force base near Pakistan.

Rana Sanaullah, a provincial minister, told reporters in the eastern city of Lahore that the case was registered based on information provided by India.

The SIT had been constituted by Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after India asked for action from Pakistan against terror groups that worked on its soil. This is the first official acknowledgement of the attack that the attack indeed had its root in Pakistan.

"We will seek more information from India", he said.

"I think militancy can be eliminated from this region if India and Pakistan are on one page", he said. Parthasarathy said it is impossible for India to take Pakistan's claims of establishing peace with India seriously as long as the perpetrators of the attacks are at large.
