Inmate Mistakenly Released From Los Angeles Jail Recaptured

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's office released Wright at 1 p.m. Saturday after he was transferred from court to jail with paperwork that had his court case and charge numbers "mixed up", said sheriff's office Commander Keith Swensson. According to a press release, the sheriff's department said they received a tip about Wright's location on Monday morning, and alerted the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Aside from Wright being arrested, two more people, a man and a woman, were arrested at the hotel for charges of aiding and abetting, KHQ reported.

The Inmate Reception Center, part of the downtown jail complex where Wright was held on the contempt charge, processes more than 100,000 releases annually, and only a small fraction of inmates have been allowed to leave by mistake, according to Cmdr.

The Commissioner sent out an email to Directors of Schools this morning encouraging schools with problems to discontinue testing. The issue quickly was resolved, with students beginning the assessments at approximately 10:30 a.m., Doddridge continued.

Authorities no longer filed additional charges against Wright.

Steven Lawrence Wright is seen in a bulletin provided by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Wright was behind bars since April of 2011 following the shooting death of a 47-year-old man. The shooting took place in Pasadena, California and it is said to be a gang-related incident.

Deputies realized a mistake had been made almost 33 hours later. Wright was set for a preliminary hearing in a new murder trial next month, when he also was set to be sentenced for an attempted murder conviction. If convicted, he will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
