One of the Texans biggest weaknesses is fast becoming a team strength, as Houston has officially paired their signing of cornerback Johnathan Joseph (Bengals) with a deal to bring safety Danieal Manning (Bears) into the fold.

Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting the deal is final and will pay Manning $20 million over four years, with $9 million guaranteed.

Manning is an explosive talent capable of contributing both on defense and in the kick return game, and he should help the Texans shore up their defense right away with ability to defend the pass.

As for the Bears, losing Manning opens a hole that won’t be easy to fill, but it seemed all along that they were resigned to losing Manning via free agency thanks in large part to the kind of money he got on the open market. The most likely candidate to step up into Manning’s starting role is second year safety Major Wright, who played reasonably well with limited opportunities.
