According to multiple sources, the Panthers have acquired the services of tight end Greg Olson in a trade with the Bears. We reported late last night that Olson was on the trade block, and less than 24 hours later, a deal came together to send him south to Carolina.

With that in mind, here’s a quick look at how the trade will affect Olson’s fantasy value this season.

Olsen was a decent tight end option for most fantasy owners in Chicago when he had Jay Cutler as his quarterback. Now he goes to a team with one of the worst quarterback situations in the league. Chances are he’ll be asked to block more instead of being a pass first option. I would not expect great numbers from Olsen until we know more about how the quarterback play will be.

Bottom Line: Olsen is a good back up option if you need one. Otherwise, he’s not worth it.
