Browns, Rams discussing trade for top pick

When Cleveland team president Mike Holmgren and general manager Tom Heckert spoke with the media earlier this morning, more than a few interesting notes came out, including the revelation that the Browns have been talking to the Rams front office about potentially moving up in the draft next week to the #1 overall spot.

Heckert wouldn’t go much farther than that, saying “we’re playing a little phone tag,” but he did indicate that if Cleveland did make a deal to move up that high, they’d be doing so to get quarterback Sam Bradford.

Holmgren gave a dose of reality to the topic:

“He’s a coveted young man. You’d have to mortgage the ranch. In the real world, we’re probably going to go in a different direction.”

– Cleveland team president Mike Holmgren

In all likelihood, the Browns won’t be able to get high enough to snatch Bradford, but anything’s possible at this point. The Browns do have plenty of firepower to make a deal happen, with five selections in the first 92 next week.

Impossibleeeee. Is Bradford really that much better than Clausen? or McCoy in the 2nd? It'll cost them top 10 1st round this year, a 2nd this year, and a first next year, MINIMUM, to be able to get to #1. Don't blow this one Holmgren, you've been doing well.

i think that we need to stay were we are and draft berry or get a offense lineman and get a QB in the later rounds. picking a QB later will help with the deveopment of a later round QB
