Updated Mock Draft – Free Agency

Written by Chris Kolb

Topics: NFL Draft

With the first weekend of the free agency period come and gone, our mock draft has undergone a few changes, but for the most part has stayed the same. Obviously, there’s still a significant amount of time between now and the draft in April, so anything can change and likely will before the top players take center stage at the Radio City Music Hall.

Feel free to leave any thoughts or comments you may have for us in the comment section… we always appreciate feedback and definitely keep it in mind when formulating our next mock.

1. Sam Bradford (Quarterback)

Showing up in perfect shape, with extra size and strength not seen during his career at Oklahoma, no one helped his stock more over the weekend than Bradford. The Rams have to be impressed with Bradford’s willingness to work hard through his injury last season, and it could give him the upper hand to be taken here at #1.

Previous pick: Same

2. Ndamukong Suh (Defensive Tackle – Nebraska)

There is almost no way that the Lions would not select Suh if they get the chance, as he could potentially be the savior of the franchise with his amazing skill level and talent. He would immediately upgrade both the pass rush and the run defense up front, making things much easier for Detroit’s secondary.

Previous pick: Same

3. Gerald McCoy (Defensive Tackle – Oklahoma)

Some might say that losing out on Suh will hurt, but in reality, it’s no big deal with McCoy still on the board. McCoy could very well become the best tackle taken in this class depending on the scheme he’s dropped into, and given his talent and size, he’ll bring on comparisons to Warren Sapp from day one.

Previous pick: Same

4. Russell Okung (Offensive Tackle – Oklahoma State)

Mike Shanahan and the Redskins front office has been enamored with Bradford for some time now, but with him off the board first in this class, taking a premier left tackle has to be priority number one, given Chris Samuels imminent retirement.

Previous pick: Same

5. Eric Berry (Safety – Tennessee)

The Chiefs have major needs across the board, so they really can ill afford to miss with this pick. Thus the move to take Berry, who is probably the safest pick in this class in my mind, having clearly demonstrated his dominance of the collegiate game over his entire career in Knoxville.

Previous pick: Same

6. Jimmy Clausen (Quarterback – Notre Dame)

Walter Jones is inches away from hanging it up for good and if he goes, the Seahawks offense will follow him out the door. But I just can’t see Pete Carroll passing on drafting a potential franchise QB with this pick, and seeing as he coached against him every year at USC, taking Clausen makes a ton of sense.

Previous pick: Same

7. Joe Haden (Cornerback – Florida)

Haden is far and away the best corner available in this class, and there is little doubt that the Browns could sorely use him to fill the holes in their porous pass defense. A pure cover corner with swagger and the talent to back it up is hard to find, and Mike Holmgren would be wise to snatch him here instead of waiting for someone else.

Previous pick: Same

8. Bruce Campbell (Offensive Tackle – Maryland)

Campbell put on a show at the combine last weekend, showing up in perfect shape and running a lightning fast forty. That alone should put him at or near the top of Al Davis’ list heading into the draft, and while he might be a bit of reach here, his potential is good enough to warrant the pick.

Previous pick: Same

9. Anthony Davis (Offensive Tackle – Iowa)

The Bills need to upgrade their offensive line in a bad way, and as such there’s almost no chance that they’ll let Davis get past them here. Solidifying their pass protection will immediately improve their offensive firepower, and it won’t hurt their run game either.

Previous pick: Same

10. Dez Bryant (Wide Receiver – Oklahoma State)

Jacksonville has been adamant that they won’t allow marketing efforts to sway their decision on who to draft next spring, and if that holds true, the Jags will likely pass on taking Tim Tebow here. That said, their offense still needs an upgrade, and adding Bryant definitely won’t hurt in that regard.

Previous pick: Same
