Topics: NFL Draft

It’s been some time since we’ve posted an updated mock, but now that the Senior Bowl has come and gone, and the NFL season is officially complete, we’re back with our thoughts on how the first five picks will play out this April. You can view the rest of our picks for round one after the jump.

Feel free to chime in with your thoughts on the selections, along with your own picks in the comment section!

The order for the 2010 NFL Draft is based on the final win/loss standings. All tiebreakers were determined by the strength of schedule, as posted here.

1. Sam Bradford (Quarterback – Oklahoma)

I know, I know… this pick looks crazy at first glance. But if Bradford checks out medically and is able to demonstrate his ability at the Scouting Combine and his private workout, he could leap over Jimmy Clausen and entice the Rams into taking him here. Franchise QBs are hard to come by after all.

Previous pick: Jimmy Clausen

2. Ndamukong Suh (Defensive Tackle – Nebraska)

There is almost no way that the Lions would not select Suh if they get the chance, as he could potentially be the savior of the franchise with his amazing skill level and talent. He would immediately upgrade both the pass rush and the run defense up front, making things much easier for Detroit’s secondary.

Previous pick: Same

3. Gerald McCoy (Defensive Tackle – Oklahoma)

With Suh off the board, the Bucs would be wise to turn their attention towards McCoy, who could become the premier DT that they’ve been missing ever since Warren Sapp jumped ship for Oakland. A selection of Eric Berry here wouldn’t be bad either.

Previous pick: Same

4. Russell Okung (Offensive Tackle – Oklahoma State)

Okung may not be the sexy pick that a lot of fans want, but if there’s one thing Mike Shanahan is known for having, it’s a solid offensive line taking care of business in the trenches. The rebuilding project has to start somewhere, and it might as well be there.

Previous pick: Same

5. Rolando McClain (Linebacker – Alabama)

The Chiefs have major needs across the board, but none more so in my opinion than the one at MLB. Drafting a inside linebacker this early may seem foolish, but in reality having a tremendously talented captain anchoring the middle of the defense is just as important as anything else.

Previous pick: Eric Berry (S)
