Singletary slams officials after loss to Seattle
Most NFL coaches spend time each week filing grievances with the league covering a multitude of issues, including missed calls by the officials working their game, and 49ers head coach Mike Singletary is no different.
Singletary let his emotions show when asked about the officiating during last Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks, which critically damaged the remaining playoff hopes for San Francisco, saying there were more bad calls in that game than he’s seen in his entire career.
“Every week we send a letter to the league about different calls that are made, or not made. This week there will be several paragraphs going to the league. Obviously, there were bad calls made yesterday. There were a few more than I have witnessed maybe since I’ve been in the league.”
– San Francisco head coach Mike Singletary
Obviously, that’s a bit of hyperbole on the part of Singletary, as he’s likely been a party to hundreds if not thousands of official decisions that he did not agree with during his time as both a player and coach in the league. But that said, Singletary does have point, in that the officiating in the contest was universally atrocious across the board, and the league will likely be looking into the matter further this week.
Singletary is almost assured of garnering a fine for his comments, as the NFL is very strict with regards to what players and coaches can say about the officiating of games, and any negative thoughts that are publicly released through the media are dealt with rather severely.
Seattle defeated San Francisco 20-17.
