Peterson throws hat into Seattle GM search?

For 20 years, Carl Peterson reigned supreme in Kansas City, molding the Chiefs into a playoff contender almost every year.

But after it became frighteningly apparent that Peterson was steering the team in the wrong direction with multiple botched draft classes and poor free agent signings, he was given his walking papers by team owner Clark Hunt, and is now out of the game completely.

So with that in mind, it goes without saying that Peterson would like to return to the league at some point in the future, most likely in his former role of general manager. And while there have been no indications that any team would actually be interested in his services, Peterson has done his best to put his name into the mix in several locations, including the newly opened position in Seattle (H/T to Arrowhead Pride).

During an interview yesterday on the Brock and Salk show on ESPN 710 radio in Seattle, Peterson discussed the general manager job with the Seahawks and made a few interesting comments that seem to show he’s definitely interested in the gig.

“I think it’s a marvelous job for someone who would like to be a general manager in the NFL, or has been or aspires to be a GM. I think it ranks in the top 10 in the NFL without question. First of all, as I’ve always believed it starts with ownership, then facilities.  It has all of that.  And Seattle, Washington is a nice place to live.  It’s a little different than Buffalo, New York, not to take anything away from that, or Cleveland, Ohio or even Kansas City.”

– Former Kansas City general manager Carl Peterson

Peterson went on to say that he’d be flattered to be considered for the position, but then declined to discuss the issue any further. But given his good relationship with several key players already in place within the Seahawks organization, including head coach Jim Mora Jr. and CEO Tod Leiweke,  the possibility exists that Seattle may look to Peterson in the future as their new general manager.

For now we’ll keep this one on the back burner, but it certainly shaping up to be an interesting off-season for the Seahawks to say the least.

What do you think Seattle fans? Would Peterson be a good fit with the team? Feel free to chime in on the comment thread.
