The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is reporting that Dom Capers (Patriots) has agreed to become the Packers new defensive coordinator, despite several rumors that surfaced earlier in the week that seemed to suggest a deal with the Giants to fill the same position was imminent.

The Pack will likely have to shift their defense around a bit to play Capers’ preferred 3-4 style, but they seem to have the horses to make that move happen without too much trouble.

Adam Schefter (NFL.com) is reporting that Green Bay is in the process of interviewing Dom Capers (Patriots) to become their new defensive coordinator.

The Packers have previously interviewed Mike Nolan (Broncos) and Gregg Williams (Saints) to fill the position, but both coaches chose to go elsewhere instead.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Rams interim head coach Jim Haslett is interviewing in Green Bay for the Packers opening at defensive coordinator. Haslett is still a possibility for the Rams, but at this point it seems that the team is ready to move on, so he’s making a smart move to see what else is available.

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is now the frontrunner to take the same position with the Saints. Williams could also end up in Green Bay or Tennessee, if Titans DC Jim Schwartz takes a head coaching job elsewhere.

Williams would be a good fit with any of the three teams listed above, and will likely make a decision once Schwartz’s future with Tennessee is determined.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette is reporting that the Packers have narrowed their efforts to hire a new defensive coordinator down to two: former San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan, and former Buffalo Bills head coach Gregg Williams.

The team is also considering a few other candidates, but they are expected to focus primarily on hiring either Nolan or Williams at this point. Of the two, the Packers seem to prefer Nolan, while Williams is seen as the frontrunner to take the same position in New Orleans with the Saints.

Packers looking at Williams

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is reporting that former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is a strong candidate to take over the defensive coordinator position in Green Bay. Williams was released from his position by the Jaguars after the team’s defense faltered this season.

Williams was the head coach in Buffalo from 2001-03, before being fired from the team.

Green Bay Packers special teams coach Mike Stock decided to call it quits today, after 18 years of coaching in the NFL. Stock had served in that capacity with the Packers for the past three seasons, and his retirement comes as little surprise, with his family life taking precedence for him right now.

There was no word as to when Packers head coach Mike McCarthy will name his replacement for the job.

Green Bay Packers DE Jeremy Thompson struggled through the 2008 campaign, notching a lowly 178 snaps for a Packers team that desperately needed a legitimate pass rush as the season progressed. But instead of focusing on the woes of this past season, Thompson is already looking ahead to next season, and is planning on having a dynamite second year with the club.

His defensive line coach, Carl Hairston had this to say:

“When you’ve got a pass rusher with a 36-, 37-inch reach, you can do a lot with that,” Hairston said. “I tell him to just start reaching for people, there’s no telling what you’ll grab. I like his speed, I like his athletic ability. His strength is not in question. Sometimes you just need more bulk. That’s something that is going to come with a strong offseason training program, and I think he’s prepared for that.”
