Italy, Spain advance at Euro 2016

A 2-2 draw between Croatia and the Czech Republic was briefly halted after Croatians threw flares on the pitch, prompting coach Ante Cacic to call them "sports terrorists".

Speaking through a translator, Cacic described those responsible for the incidents as "sports terrorists" and said the Croatian football authorities can't fight against these "hooligans" on its own.

Tomas Necid scored the equalizer from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time after Domagoj Vida was penalized for a handball.

"They were in control at that time and they suddenly lost rhythm and we could capitalise on that".

"We now have to focus on the game against Croatia and see if we can make it to the final". "They ruin everything we are doing".

Turkey need to beat the Czech Republic in their final match and hope other results go their way to have any chance of progressing as one of the four best third-placed sides from the six groups. Croatia was later deducted one point in its Euro 2016 qualifying group after fans painted a swastika symbol on the field before a match against Italy in Split.

"My players lost their strengths, they might have been anxious to see their relatives in the stands", Cacic said.

The late reverse undid all Croatia's good work during a match it dominated with midfielders Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic dictating the tempo with their quick passes and pinpoint crosses.

The trouble broke out in the dying minutes of a game that Croatia were leading 2-1.

Captain Darijo Srna took his place at right-back after returning from father's funeral back in Croatia and shed a few tears during his country's anthem in an emotional start to a tense encounter.

"I'm not sure if it was a cramp or a more serious problem", Cacic said. "We were not concentrated that much when he left the pitch".

An error by the Turkey defence set up the second goal as centre-back Mehmet Topal failed to clear Cesc Fabregas' lobbed pass and instead lobbed it into the path of Nolito, who slid the ball in despite slipping as he took the shot.

Turkey manager Fatih Terim congratulated Spain for their 3-0 defeat of his team and admitted they made it too easy for La Roja as they slumped to a second loss in two tries at Euro 2016.

After missing chances to score in Spain's opening 1-0 win over the Czech Republic, forwards Morata and Manuel "Nolito" Agudo netted goals three minutes apart in the first half for a 2-0 lead.

Supporters threw dozens of flares on to the pitch and rioted during a game against Italy in Milan in November 2014, causing play to be suspended, and Croatia were ordered to partially close their stadium for their next home match against Norway.
