Drug Racket Case: Police To Issue Red-Corner Notice Against Mamta Kulkarni

The latter was in the news recently for the drug haul, in which the police had confiscated 20 tonnes of ephedrine worth around Rs. 2,000 crores.

After thorough investigations into the drug racket involving former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni, the Mumbai Police today established that she was involved in the drug trail and she is now an accused in the case.

Addressing the media, Thane CP Paramvir Singh said according to the investigations, Mamta and Vicky were the masterminds behind the drug racket.

Shabbir Patel, who faced allegations of links with drug mafia, had written a letter to Thane Police Commissioner Parambir Singh rejecting the charge.

Kulkarni is now suspected to be in Kenya along with her partner, Vicky Goswami alleged kingpin of the racket, is now out on bail in Kenya. The Maharashtra and Gujarat police are on the lookout for at least four other people who are missing and reportedly on the run.

Mamta is likely to face a Red Corner Notice by the Interpol. While seven more accused including Mamta Kulkarni and Vicky Goswami who have been booked are absconding.

In a major breakthrough for Police, 10 people have been arrested till now.

Another report in The Times of India said that the Thane police had earlier also planned to issue a red corner notice against Goswami.

However, Goswami is unwilling to come to India, fearing kidnapping by USA's Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) that has been pressurising India to extradite him.

Goswami, 52, was earlier imprisoned for 25 years in the United Arab Emirates in 1997 for trafficking around 11.50 tonnes of Mandrax but was released in November 2012 on grounds of good conduct.

The drugs were seized on April 12 from the Avon Life science limited company.
