Trump wins 3 states, but still has work to do

Bernie Sanders has won the Michigan Democratic primary, CNN projects, in an upset that delivers a sharp blow to Hillary Clinton's hopes of quickly securing her party's nomination. At least 8 in 10 voters in each party's primary said they were anxious about where the American economy is heading, according to exit polls conducted by Edison Research for The Associated Press and television networks.

If Rubio and Kasich cannot win in their home states, the Republican primary contest appears set to become a two-person race between Trump and Cruz. Marco Rubio was desperate for some evidence to counter an impression that his campaign is fading.

Clinton's MS win is definitely not a surprise; Clinton went into the primary with a polling average lead of more than 40 points in the state.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is hoping for a strong showing to bolster his claim that he is the only Republican who can stop Trump, and Florida Sen. The other states that will vote next Tuesday are Illinois, Florida, North Carolina and Missouri.

The new poll shows that, in both OH and Florida, the number of undecided voters is smaller than Clinton's lead, "meaning that to be victorious Sanders has to get all the undecideds and then take Clinton voters away from her", said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

Clinton's lead in delegates is cushioned by her lopsided advantage with the party insiders known as superdelegates, who can support anyone.

Trump's got a longer climb in the splintered GOP affair, but he helped himself in the first pair of races Tuesday night.

The victory in the 147-delegate state created "the kind of momentum we need to win" the nomination, said Sanders.
