Commuter train derails in Alameda County, California

The Altamont Corridor Express 10 was said to carry 214 passengers aboard, and one train auto carrying nine people crashed into a Sunol creek.

Fourteen people were taken to the hospital, four with serious injuries, Alameda County Fire reported on its Twitter feed.

The department had been reporting that 14 people were hurt.

"Our auto went off the track and stopped right at the edge, which was a blessing", Blackman said. "This is an absolute miracle that no one was killed, no passengers or first responders".

Somali intelligence cooperated with US for al-Shabab hit
More than 150 al-Shabaab fighters were killed as they stood in formation at a graduation ceremony, a US official said Monday. He said it appeared that the training was ending and the operational phase of a suspected attack was about to start.

The front auto tumbled into Alameda Creek, coming to rest half-submerged.

The second auto also came off the tracks but remained upright and three more carriages stayed on the tracks.

In a statement, ACE says "We are working with our partners to restore service as soon as possible pending a complete investigation and assurance that the tracks are safe".

It continued to rain heavily in the area at the time of the accident.

According to Steve Walker, a spokesman for Altamont Corridor Express, the lead auto on the train derailed and ended up in the Alameda creek after the initial crash.

No ACE trains will operate Tuesday because of the train derailment, according to a statement.

An Altamont Corridor Express train has derailed in Niles Canyon Monday evening. The uninjured passengers were transported to the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, the department said.
