ISIS claims responsibility for third deadly Iraq bombing in 2 days

Police sources said the suicide bombers were riding motorcycles and blew themselves up in a crowded mobile phone market in Sadr City, wounding more than 100 people in addition to the dead.

A further 58 people were wounded.

IS said earlier that its militants had organised Sunday's blasts in the Shia district of Sadr City and more attacks would follow.

The last major attack on Haditha in January by about 200 ISIS militants was deterred with the aid of U.S.-led coalition air strikes.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but suicide bombings are a tactic nearly exclusively employed in Iraq by the Islamic State jihadist group.

Haditha and its nearby dam, which the regimental command is charged with protecting, are in one of the few parts of the Sunni Muslim province of Anbar still controlled by Iraq's Shi'ite-led government forces and local police backed by tribal fighters.

A local leader of the powerful Shiite militia Asaib Ahl al-Haq was also among the victims, according to security officials cited by the AP news agency.

On Sunday, 53 people were killed and 117 others were wounded in back-to-back bombings at a busy marketplace in Baghdad.

Security officials and witnesses say the situation inside Muqdadiya is very tense, with dozens of militia members deployed in the streets with no presence of the security forces.

Sunday's bombings marked the deadliest single attack in the Iraqi capital in months, fueling fears that Islamic State is resorting to mass attacks on civilians as it suffers battlefield setbacks.

IS commands much of western and northern Iraq, but has been driven in recent months. ISIS had captured the city a year ago.
