Polling in most of Saturday's contests has been sketchy, though on the Republican side, Trump has led most of the surveys that do exist and has undeniable momentum after Super Tuesday.

Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, called Trump a phony and a fraud who was playing American voters for suckers, and 2008 nominee John McCain, a US senator from Arizona, said Trump's foreign policy views were uninformed and risky. Clinton came to Omaha in December, and the former first lady's daughter, Chelsea Clinton, and former President Bill Clinton made campaign appearances on her behalf in the days ahead of the caucus. Marco Rubio had another disappointing night, raising serious questions about his viability in the race.

Both candidates and their campaigns were clearly looking beyond Saturday, before the results had been tallied.

The win in ME, along with his victory in Alaska on Super Tuesday, suggests that Cruz can expand his political base beyond his home state of Texas and states that are heavily influenced by evangelical and social conservatives.

It takes 2,383 to win the party's nomination. It would be nice to end the weekend knowing our state's delegates are behind Sanders and Kasich, but I'm not sure that's likely.
