Kasich says "name calling" won't beat Trump

Mar 04, 2016, 03:52

Donald Trump addresses a crowd in SC.

There's a first time for everything. If Trump wins Florida, Rubio's campaign will be effectively over.

Carson signaled his withdrawal after Trump consolidated his lead in the Republican race with a string of victories on Tuesday. "You get all the constitutionally and the very conservative". Anti-Trump forces may try to stack state delegation with Trump "SILO's" - supporters in name only - who would end up rejecting Trump, Yob said.

Some of the new Cruz converts fit the mold of the establishment GOP donor class in the News report, even if they didn't meet the donation threshold to be included in that analysis.

Other analysts, such as Republican strategist Ford O'Connell, are more optimistic. In both years, Ford and Dewey went on to lose in the general election. So far Trump has won only 46 percent of the delegates, even though he has won 10 of the first 15 contests. Those are all well short of the 1,237 needed for a majority to become the party's nominee. Or maybe as Cruz spokesman Ron Nehring wrote in an email, "Donald Trump as the nominee gives you President Hillary Clinton, a Democratic Senate and a Supreme Court that's lost for a generation".

As he marches toward the Republican nomination, Trump has used a trademark formula for success, combining often extreme statements on issues of national security and immigration with an endless deluge of personal insults against his Republican rivals. That's opposed to the Republican National Committee's mandated proportional allocation that takes place up until that date.

How Marco Rubio Plans on Beating Donald Trump for the Nomination
There is near unanimity that real estate mogul Donald Trump will win the Super Tuesday 2016 states without much trouble. "Maybe those tax returns show that those business dealings are a lot more extensive", Cruz said on ABC's "This Week".

But here's the thing: Trump, as he rightly noted, wins a lot of Democrats - and he's shown ample Tea Party support to date, equal to Cruz and ahead of Rubio. He's brought thousands of voters out to the polls who have no respect for conservative intellectual traditions and love Trump's nativist, strong-man posturing. Rubio won only liberal Minnesota.

The News, in that analysis, looked at the almost 700 top home-state donors to David Dewhurst, Cruz's establishment-backed foe in his 2012 Senate race. "I don't think it will be a blowout on either side".

What's more, in Ohio, Rubio not only has to contend with the current popular governor, Kasich, but Trump has been beating Kasich in the limited polling there so far.

"It may (tear) the party in two, but if that's what's required, so be it. His entire campaign has been one long dog whistle to bigots of various varieties", Stipanovich said. Where does Rubio's momentum come from?

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry has been approached by "a mixture of people" about being part of a third-party bid, said Jeff Miller, who managed Perry's failed GOP presidential campaign.

Despite the establishment's distaste for Trump, there appears to be no consensus on the best way to stop him.

A spokeswoman for the Fulton County District Attorney's office did not return an email or phone call requesting comment. He argues the process was flawed not by the state's request to seal the order, not the judge's actions.

It is a sign of Donald Trump's ugly dominance of the media that most assessments of the "Super Tuesday" primaries in the United States have been about his fortunes. But Super Tuesday marked the start of a more frenetic primary period where more states vote and more delegates are rewarded.

But while Cruz is struggling to win his targeted base against Trump, Trump is expanding.

"I'm going to be a good president for the world, but we have a country that's in big trouble".

And as long as Trump continues to loom large, it's not out of the question for more of those donors to join Cruz's camp. Fifteen are purely winner-take-all, and many are in "moderate" states. If Scenario 2 goes this way, it means a convention that goes old school, where the nominee isn't known going in. That wouldbe a big change for modern politics. Others raised the specter of a contested convention in July.

The last brokered convention for either party was 64 years ago. What would play out? "For the candidates who have not yet won a state, who have not racked up significant delegates, I ask you to prayerfully consider coming together, uniting". Ginsberg helped write the rules for the RNC.

"Perhaps his expectations for the event were not set properly by the people who were advising him", she said.

US Presidential Candidates Ready for Super Tuesday
Rubio released portions of his 2010 through 2014 returns, adding to 10 years of tax documents he had previously made public. In Georgia, the poll shows Trump at 40% which gives him an eleven point advantage over Ted Cruz, who stands at 29%.
