Neighbors Say Kalamazoo Suspect Showed No Signs of Violence

"We have no understanding of the motive, what prompted the suspect Jason Dalton to commit this bad acts, and our hearts really go out to the families of the victims who were just out enjoying life", Kalamazoo police said.

Authorities could not say what they believed motivated him to target victims with no apparent connection to him or to each other in the Saturday night shootings. Police officers were briefed today that the suspect had potentially been on duty as an Uber driver while the shootings took place, said Jeff Hadley, chief of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

Getting said authorities were not aware of Dalton having any history of mental illness. "He loved to do things outside with his kids" like taking them for rides on his lawn tractor, Block said.

The gunman shot eight people in three different parts of the county Saturday evening, authorities said.
