World Health Organization reports rise of neurological disorder in Zika outbreak

The presence of the Zika virus in Brazil won't compromise the Olympics in August, President Dilma Rousseff vowed on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) as soldiers went door-to-door across the country to share key tips on how to stem the outbreak.

In the re-inauguration of the Maria Lenk Water Park, which got a facelift for the Olympics, Mayor Paes commented on the zika virus situation, which has raised some controversy over the actual risk of holding the Games in Rio, reports Xinhua.

Zika virus is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, the same mosquitoes that spread dengue and chikungunya.

"There will be Olympic Games and we are focused on that goal", said Rousseff during a speech in Rio de Janeiro, which is waging a broad campaign against the virus.

Alarms have been raised due to possible link between the virus and the birth defect that causes the babies to take birth with unusually small head and in many cases even brain damage.
