Tim Tebow exit strategy out of New York already in the works?

Topics: New York Jets

Just one game into the 2012 campaign, questions on Tim Tebow’s long term future with the Jets are already beginning to pile up, and while he’s been careful to toe the company line during his time thus far in New York, the signs are beginning to point towards Tebow pushing his way out of town at season’s end.

Citing an NFL source, the New York Daily News is of the belief that the longer Tebow remains the backup for the Jets, the more he’ll desire to extricate himself to a team in need of a starting quarterback in the off-season. Their reasoning is based on Tebow’s reputation as a “football-aholic” and it makes sense that he would want to do anything he could to get himself into a more favorable position with a club going forward.

The Jets, for their part, seem content to keep Tebow on a short leash, using him in a variety of ways but rarely as a passer, preferring instead to stick with Sanchez for the time being on that front. What they do when the going gets rough though is anyone’s best guess, as it will be tough to keep Tebow on the bench if Sanchez is unable to lead them to post-season success.

In any case, Tebow’s future is firmly in the hands of the Jets management for better or worse, and any playing time he gets will be based solely on the ups and downs of Sanchez, rather than his own hard work and effort on the field. Forcing the Jets hand will require a different approach than we’re used to with Tebow, as he’ll have to make his case publicly and drop his team-first attitude to make it more advantageous for New York to send him elsewhere in the off-season.

    send him  to Philly

    • Ayeh1

What are they going to do with him. “Michael Vick”!!!!!!!!!! Hello?

      • Paradave24

What do you think? They would use him as a back up because of how injury prone Vick is. No way that guy will last the whole season. He was already questionable during preseason when action was limited.

  • Db Beurylaw

Little Timmy is overlooking the fact that he is not a starting nfl quarterback because he’s not good enough.

    • Brutus

Your full of %$J*& . This kid is gonna be the deal. Everybody is in a damn hurry. The kid is a maniac .  You obviously either never played, or were a cheerleader !

True Tebow rules just like a judge! From the bench!!

    • Ilockett

What are you basing this statement on?  His stats are more than comparable to Sanchez, better in some cases.  Ridiculous!

He’s gotta go somewhere  ! He gotta be used . A smart coach can no doubt see the potential . All he wants to do is play , and he plays hard . and with heart. He’s gotta get the chance ! Say what you want about Favre, but Tebow has Favre’s guts and balls !

      • Fred jenkins

Tebow is nothing but a punk ass religious hypocrite

Fred dont hide behind that computer. Go out in public and say those things so some righteous Christian can take that oversized head of yours and put it where the sun doesnt shine.

        • Tim

You sound like a frustrated want a be. Someone that has never played the game and is envious of someone that puts his heart and soul into it. The only reason I am wasting my time say it it, is because Tebow has too much class, to lower himself to your level with a response.

Just remember he is the winning-est quarterback in college football, Florida & Tebow, won more national championships during his tenure, than any other team in college football. He has beaten most of the college greats that are now in the Pros.

His success was limited at Denver because he had a coach that never wanted him in the first place, because his acquisition, was not his decision. Therefore, he never gave him a chance.

He set him up to fail, did everything he could to see to it that he failed, by putting him in a position to fail. Guess what, he did not fail, he won despite be made to play out of his comfort zone the shotgun, the wildcat. He took a losing team and turned it into a winning team, despite the odds. He took a team without morale fiber, without spirit, without direction and became their inspirational leader.

He picked them up by their boot straps and turned the team and salvaged the season. Not John Elway, not the Head Coach, Tim Tebow. Everyone criticizes his passing ability and style. What about Tony Romo, have you ever watched him throw a ball.

Tebow gets the same bad rap as Joe Flacco. All anyone talks about are passing percentages. What they fail to mention, are the numerous balls, put right in the receivers hands and they drop them.Who suffers, the quarterbacks rating.

Ask Joe Flacco about it, on second thought, do not ask Joe,  like Tebow, he has to much class to blame his teammates  He will do his talking on the field and so will Tebow.

He has the same problem now as he had last year, an egotistical coach that refuses to give him a chance because it was not his idea or choice.

Maybe I am wrong, but it would not surprise me to see Ryan get his walking papers, because of his actions. Rex has not performed any better than Sanchez. This comes from their records, not my opinion.

      • Kblast76

Amen. I might add, also like Farve, that he doesn’t complain about hard hits like a little bitch ( RG3 ). He will lower his shoulder for a first down to keep a drive alive. He seriously needs to strike while the iron is hot on the loosing the virginity thing. There are literally thousands of the hotttest of the hot babes that want the honor. They will make money selling Tebow to someone in need of an interum qb. Tebow will get screwed on the money but will get a chance to play.

    • Mmcguire11

I AGREE WITH THAT!! OR MAYBE MIAMI THEY ARE IN NEED AND HE WOULD BE WELCOMED AT EITHER IM SURE. OR THESE GOOFY BENGALS UP HERE BY WHERE I LIVE WOOD FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM. THERE ARE PLENTY OF TEAMS THAT HAVE THE NEED FOR A GOOD QB. JUST REALY TICKS ME TO SEE HIM IN NEW YORK NOT GETTING THE LOVE HE DESERVES AND THE JETS ARE JUST GOING TO USE HIM FOR A PAYDAY AT DRAFT AND TRADE TIME NEXT YEAR.

  • DumbAzzBoxOfRocks

This article is dumb because Tebow can’t go anywhere… It even says so: “In any case, Tebow’s future is firmly in the hands of the Jets management for better or worse.”

Tebow isn’t going anywhere and all these so-called football sources have no clue.  If he goes anywhere it will be to start for the Jets when Sanchez finally peters out and the fans call for his head on a platter and Tebow to start.

It happened in Denver, it can happen in New York.  Kyle Orton was a good QB, much better than Tebow but he ran into a bad stretch and that was the end of him as a starter in the NFL.  Sanchize better watch his back and keep playing at a high level or it’s T. I. M. for the J. E. T. S.!

  • Vmaxx1973

    What…and the NFL…has FIVE rookie starting….what’s wrong with Tebow?……

    • Vmaxx1973

Lord like mr.salomon asked……Cleveland…..we would love him in Ohio

  • Larry

Who cares about Tebow. He’s not that good of an NFL quarterback. Get his name out of the sports stories

    • Jfkvegas

Agree, who cares, let him go.  Couldn’t complete a pass if  his life depended on it.  Worse QB I ever saw.

      • JJS4

        False: Brandon Weedon…

      • Chancealot

“Couldn’t complete a pass if his life depended on it. ” mr Jfkvegas???  Didn’t he complete a pass against the Steelers to win a playoff game? Seems your argument is just plain stupid. Why do people hate this guy? He hasn’t done anything wrong. Sure he is not an elite quarterback, but he is good enough to win a national championship, gotta mean something right? I mean really? He doesn’t post articles that talk about himself, so called journalist do, dislike them. Tebow seems to be a straight up guy with good character, so leave him alone, sheesh, what if he were your kid? Besides isn’t this the sort of ‘role model’ we should be happy to see in professional sports?

        • Kevin

Don’t you find it a little bit interesting that he’s a “team” guy in public, but he actively chose to go to New York, a team that already had a starting QB, and now he’s going to leave if they don’t start him?  He can’t say he just wants to help the team win in any way possible, and that he didn’t come to New York to take Sanchez’s job away from him, if after one season of being the back up he’s going to insist on a trade.  It makes a lot of what he says in public sound an awful lot like BS.  If that is the case then he is essentially admitting that he came to New York in order to try and take away Sanchez’s job- team be damned.  Nobody’s saying he’ll ask for a trade if the team goes 6-10 and he doesn’t get a chance a start- no, the team could win the Super Bowl, but Tim “Team” Tebow would still want to leave because he wasn’t able to get Mark Sanchez fired.  Nobody else sees that as pretty disingenuous?

          • Dj

I think what everyone is forgetting here is that Tebow has not said anything about leaving, about wanting Sanchez’s job, etc.  This is purely gossip.

Tim Tebow has more character and integrity in his little finger than you will find in the entire NFL.

People also forget how he took the Denver Broncos out of the basement and got them into the playoffs, beating a top Pittsburgh Steeler team.

Tebow wills his teams to win.  Look at his entire career from high school, to the Florida Gators to Denver.  He is a winner!! You cannot question that.

          • mark voorhees

would stay around people who don’t like you? who don’t want you to succeed? who will work against in any subtil and even overt way to make sure you are a failure? that’s kind of like a marriage where you love your wife and she is a whore who wants you killed and is desperate to do it,..you may laugh but I have been in that exact position not once either but twice the truth is written in blood

      • Ric the Greek

        you’re a dumm-arse

      • Jtree1985

Really?…. the worst QB you ever saw… I can’t belive you said that…..

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/HT2SK3QGG474NEVJOHNPC6M2EQ BTLProd

His accuracy isn’t good enough to be a Semi-Pro Quarterback. Where else do you routinely see receivers running across the field with their hand in the air when they are open? Just watch his film from last year in Denver. The only reason anyone considers him anything more than a footnote is because Thomas took a lousy pass and turned it into a victory over Pittsburgh.

  • Kenetiknrg

Had the opportunity to be in Miami a long time ago , we didnt get him….Even with a top QB pick, still at QB woes.. TaKE tiM!!

  • TeBlows

who cares about Tebow… the NFL’s most overrated player

  • Cjl

I don’t see any sources that say Tebow wants to go anywhere.  This is, at best, tabloid journalism.  As for those knocking Tebow, he took his team, 1 and 5 at the time he took over, into the playoffs.  He then beat the Steelers.  Oh yeah, just one lucky pass.  Last I looked they played the entire game.  Shouldn’t the Steelers have been up by 21 points?  Shouldn’t their defense have been able to stop Tim?  Let me think, he won championships in High School, won championships at the college level. He went to the playoffs in his only year as a starter.  OMG, he so sucks. /s

    • practicaljack

Tebow won only one game when the defense gave up more than 13 points.  He was not the difference in most of the wins.

  • Karen

Doesn’t the author of this article know that facts are more important than making things up.  I can not believe that legit news media swallow this bull like swallowing water.  And I feel sorry for New York Jet fans who think this bull is factual.

  • Roygator86

Tim Tebow will make it happen where ever they play him, they just need to give him a chance. Talk is cheap, he is a good guy and a great ball player just get him in the gave.

    • Ilockett

You’ve hit the nail on the head…..Denver, and certainly the Jets, have done NOTHING to help him develop.  I really don’t get it.  Makes no sense to me.

  • keepingitreal

Tebow is not what you guy’s want him to be ……………..

  • slayorformayor

If the Broncos didn’t have such a good defense last year then there is no way Tebow would have led them to any victories. They hardly gave up any points last year on defense enabling the Broncos to only be trailing by a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Then by the almighty grace of his lord and savior Jesus Christ the almighty he prayed to the heavens and they answered the christlike Tebow’s prayers with a dramatic touchdown. The footballaholic and christaholic who likes to walk on water while reading from the book of Psalms and performing miracles like feeding a thousand homeless people with one loaf of bread in his spare time will lead the Jets to the Super Bowl with a paltry pass rating of 65, a TD/int ratio of
5TDs and 14int and a godlike completion % of 41.7. But he loves the lord damn it!
Hall of Fame class of 2025. God bless the second coming of christ Tim Tebow! He will also cure cancer and AIDS.

  • Billstewart7366

It wasnt a fluke that Tim Tebow got Denver to the playoffs last year. Hes got a better throwing arm on him than Mark Sanchez and he makes better decisions with the ball.

  • Tloans1958

This Chris Kolb just starts rumors to keep his job. Let the guy play. If he doesn’t like his job he will do what all of us do, Quit.

  • mb

one game and people are already pretending to be experts on tebow? if you read this stupid article you will see that there is now proof that tebow wants out, its all based on one persons opinion… what a waste of, never mind what a dumb article, but if you dont like tebow than you make up stuff…

  • BBS69

Tebow took his team to the playoffs? Some of those 8 wins were because of the kicker, the return team and the running backs, not just Tim Tebow. Yes he is a good football player but he is not a good qb. He needs to go somewhere other then Jets so he gets his chance. The wildcat is a dead offense and sadly the Jets will find this out if they try to use it too much. If a bad defense stopped it what will happen against a good defense?

  • JM

Came in to say: this story is absolutely pathetic.  You “sports writers” will do absolutely ANYTHING to put Tebow’s name in a headline.  Hey, I MIGHT solve the mystery of time travel!  Oh, and Kim Kardashian MIGHT win a Nobel Peace Prize!  See?  I can perform baseless speculation, as well.  This guy is a lackluster backup QB.  One who gets far, far too much credit for anything he does because he chose to make a spectacle and a brand out of his religion by diving on one knee for the cameras.  TIME TO MOVE ON.  There are players much more deserving of our attention

  • Ric the Greek

Oakland is where Tebow belongs.  If Al Davis were still alive, he’d take Tebow in  a heartbeat.  Al Davis was that kind of guy – willing to roll the dice on players with moxy, even if those players were misunderstood by the rest of the NFL, or past their prime or otherwise simply hadn’t found their niche on any other NFL team yet.

The Raiders were a group of renegade misfits under Al Davis.  Why not continue the history?  Not that Tebow is a misfit in any negative sense of the word, but he needs to find his niche, and Oakland is where he will likely end up as a starting QB.

  • Sraybridge

Pretty obvious at least to me, that the Jets have no intention of running the wildcat with Tebow.  They were not exactly on their game by half time and never inserted Tebow for one wildcat as quarterback.  Tebow will succeed with some NFL team but to what degree of success will be have to be determined at that time.

  • BLUZMAN0817

Rex! What the hell are you waiting for?  Sanchez is the ONLY player I know of that gets WORSE the more he plays!  The Bills sub standard defense made Sanchez look like Joe Willie.  Give him a chance and see what he has instead of giving him just 3 snaps!  As Chris Berman would say  C’MON MAN!

  • David Oliver

    Chicago Bears !!!

  • C Royce

Its sad when a coach would rather lose a game than to put Tebow in as quarterback. Sanchez sure iis bring his team up to par.

  • The Player

Now is a good time to Rethink T.O. , because th jets wides are not getting the job done, there not getting any seperation on there routes which is why Sanchez is getting caught with his (balls) in his hands…T.O., although he’s in his upper thirtys he’s in excellent shape and he just might be the extra spark they need …Right now anything is worth a try..

  • mark voorhees

the jets need to trade rex ryan, promote sanchez to coach( just get him out of the way) and set the clock for Tebow time!

  • Moav414

This is just like the PGA. No matter what is going on at a tourney the announcers always ask and talk about Tiger Woods.  Even if he’s sucking wind or not in the tournement. Sports hack writers are just like the liberal media trying to make the news rather than just reporting the news.

  • Michael4yah

I think we are forgetting he still has a contract with the Jets and the last time I looked their QB wasnt doing so well overall.

  • Crabbin Chris

I am a Jax. native . I currently live in Seattle , I have allways been a Dolphin fan growing up. Untill the Jags showed up,,,I was ALL  Jaguar FAN,,, was on the 50 yard line, good seats, when the Jags came to seattle. I put ALL of my Jag sweat shirts , hats, tea shirts, jerseys,, in a box. I will take the box back out, WHEN THEY SIGN TEBOW !!! They will fill the stadium every home game! I have my tickets 11-7-12 Because Tebow is coming to seattle.

    Go Gators

  • Janedrea38

We still LOVE YOU in Denver….Never wanted you to be traded!!!  Your faith and spirit and of course leadership in football does the soul and community well.  God Bless you and find you a home that you want for years to come.  We will always support you!!!

  • Hbrock

That Tampa Bay Buccaneers had black out after black out of their home games.  If they had drafted Tewbow, they would have filled the stadium.  There are a huge number of Gator fans and Tebow fans in Florida.  Evidently, there are Tebow fans nationally as well since his jersey was the #1 seller in the NFL.
Jacksonville would be smart to trade for him, but they would need to play him.  That would fill the stadium.  He surely can’t do any worse than what they have now.

  • Michael4yah

Tim Tebow deserves a starting QB position, He earned it, they (Broncos) promised it. Then they trade him to a team and he sits the bench 99% of the time. The NFL are liars and cheats. I wouldnt trust them to run a chinese fire drill.

  • Michael4yah

There are only so many seasons in a Football Players career. The NFL has just wasted a season for Tim Tebow.

  • mark voorhees

Sanchez has no heart for the game , he should put a panty on his head and play in the girls swimsuit  league , ryan is losing his mind, too much NY pizza, the jets locker room is a planecrash going somewhere to happen, no one is in the cockpit! they should throw away the playbook put in tebow and let the players figure out how to win some games! let them start acting  like they know how, like they mean it, how difficult is football? without a playbook per se  the opposing team would start looking a little confused, shake things up a bit ! right now it’s nothing but lots of money ,cameras ,vain egos, and endless party nights and whores and in truth no direction, listless , mind numbing useless existence…

  • Baltierra_a

    send tebow to detroit !

  • Fred Benson

At the end of the Season, The Jaguars will be waiting with open arms to bring teabow back to his home town of Jacksonville, where he will thrive, Like he did when he was a Gator.
