Fresh off the devastating news that head coach Sean Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis would be suspended for an entire season and 8 games respectively, the Saints needed something good to come across to salvage their off-season.
They got that in the form of defensive tackle Broderick Bunkley (Broncos), who agreed to a five year, $25 million deal with New Orleans this afternoon. $9 million of that is fully guaranteed.
Bunkley, 28, spent last season in Denver, totaling 43 tackles in 16 games. Prior to that, he spent five years in Philadelphia and accumulated 144 tackles, six sacks, and three fumble recoveries.
Denver had hoped to retain Bunkley, but will now likely turn to upgrading their defensive line in the early part of next month’s draft.
