One player still on the market that will undoubtedly end up landing somewhere in the very near future is veteran offensive guard Leonard Davis, who was released by the Cowboy last week in a bid to free up cap space for other acquisitions.
While interest has been tepid so far, one team that seems to like Davis and has a definite need at his position is the Dolphins. Having his former offensive line coach Tony Sparano running the show in Miami certainly won’t hurt his chances of finding work there, but it will likely come down to whether both sides can agree on a deal that makes sense financially for the Dolphins.
According to Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post, the Dolphins have contacted Davis’ agent to discuss a possible contract. Specifics of a potential deal aren’t yet available, but it’s likely that Davis will end up agreeing to a veteran minimum contract with some incentives, providing much needed depth up front for Miami this fall.
Davis has struggled throughout his career with his weight and while he’ll definitely need some conditioning to get ready for the season, reports have indicated he’s settled in around 350 pounds, and is ready to play this year.
