While potential is often enough to get a player’s foot in the door, production on the field outweighs that in almost every case. That lesson was delivered the hard way this morning to wide receiver Devin Thomas, as he was released by Washington after two disappointing seasons.
Given the state of Washington’s receiving corps right now, his release is somewhat surprising, as they clearly could use a player with his size and speed in the passing game.
That said, Thomas was well known for his tendency to get injured and a poor work ethic in practice, upsetting first year head coach Mike Shanahan, who expects maximum effort from his players throughout the season.
Thomas caught 40 passes for 445 yards and three touchdowns during his time with the Redskins and will likely have a few teams calling him this week in an effort to shore up their own passing attack.
