Browns expected to give McCoy another shot

It’s not the most ideal situation, but a second chance to take the field as the starting quarterback in on the way for Cleveland’s Colt McCoy, as the two players ahead of him on the depth chart are still dealing with injuries severe enough to keep them on the bench.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns are currently planning on having McCoy be their starter on the road this week against the Saints. McCoy played reasonably well in his first start last Sunday in Pittsburgh, completing 23 passes for 281 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in a losing effort.

There aren’t many teams that more difficult to go up against as an introduction to the NFL than the Steelers, who have one of the league’s toughest defenses and a rabid fan base backing them up, so McCoy shouldn’t have too much difficulty dealing with the intensity of a game in New Orleans.

That said, the Saints are still the defending Super Bowl champions, and the butterflies will undoubtedly be there when McCoy steps onto the field in the Superdome next week, so it remains to be seen just how effective he’ll be early on in the game.
