With a league mandated deadline set to expire at 4:00 pm EST tomorrow afternoon, talks between San Diego and Minnesota have picked up in earnest with regard to embattled wide receiver Vincent Jackson.
No deal has yet been reached according to multiple sources close to the situation, but the two sides are expected to continue their talks through the day, and an agreement could be forthcoming fairly soon, depending on how far the Vikings are willing to go.
The Chargers front office has remained adamant in their desire to obtain a significant package of picks back in return for Jackson, even as their leverage has eroded beneath their feet, with Jackson’s suspension preventing most teams from even considering a deal to acquire him.
Even if Minnesota takes on Jackson and gives him the new contract he’s seeking, he will be unable to play for the club until week five at the earliest, making it imperative that the Vikings find a way to rectify their 0-2 start to the season with the players they already have.
Seattle, St. Louis, and Washington have also expressed varying degrees of interest in a Jackson trade, but for the time being, Minnesota is clearly the front runner for his services.
