Cowboys look for fix with players only meeting

Coming into the season, expectations were high in Dallas, with team having solidified several areas of concern in off-season acquisitions via free agency and the draft.

But after starting the 2010 campaign off with a dismal 0-2 record, the Cowboys are grasping for anything that they can use to right the ship so to speak, and a players only meeting seems to be their first course of action.

According to ESPNDallas.com’s Calvin Watkins, veteran cornerback Terrance Newman called the team together yesterday afternoon to discuss what needs to be done to fix the problems that have plagued the Cowboys thus far.

Nothing much has leaked out from the meeting as of yet, but if head coach Wade Phillips‘ demeanor shortly after its conclusion is any indicator, a specific resolution hasn’t yet been reached, and the team could end up struggling once again next week.

Phillips hammered the assembled reporters on several occasions, even going so far as to lash out at one particular journalist who’s line of questioning went too far in his eyes.

“I’m going to try to do something,” Phillips said. “I’m trying to do whatever we think as a staff that we need to do better to get this turned around. That is what coaching is.”

Either way, the Cowboys resolve will definitely be tested this week, as they’ll be on the road in Houston to take on a tremendously talented Texans team that is riding high with a 2-0 record, and if they’re unable to emerge with a victory, the vultures will almost certainly be circling overhead.
