Vick headed to bench, Kolb to regain starting role

With a quarterback controversy brewing around him, Philadelphia’s head coach Andy Reid set the record straight this evening as to his intentions for Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick in the coming weeks, making it clear that Kolb would be the starter going forward, in spite of Vick’s stellar performance against Detroit.

For the most part, players don’t lose their job as a starter because of injury, unless their return comes in the middle of a Super Bowl run, and this seems to be no exception to that tradition. Vick has clearly outplayed Kolb thus far, but will take back his spot on the bench for the time being, doing what he can to help his team win games in a limited capacity.

Reid has been adamant in emphasizing that Kolb is the leader of his offense since he left last week’s game with a concussion, courtesy of Packers linebacker Clay Matthews, and it’s doubtful that will change anytime soon, even if Kolb fails to deliver the same caliber of play as Vick next Sunday.

We will just have to see how it goes. The best thing at this point is for Vick stay warmed up because he will be back in the game soon. Not because Andy Reid is going to make an intelligent coaching decison and make a personnel change. Based on the status of our offensive line Kolb will soon be injured again. Michael Vick was sacked 5 times today. Football is a tough game you either break down or break out.

Vick will start again this year if Kolc falters, which he will. If Kolb had started the Lions would have won. No way Kolb could have played like that.
