With a quarterback controversy brewing around him, Philadelphia’s head coach Andy Reid set the record straight this evening as to his intentions for Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick in the coming weeks, making it clear that Kolb would be the starter going forward, in spite of Vick’s stellar performance against Detroit.
For the most part, players don’t lose their job as a starter because of injury, unless their return comes in the middle of a Super Bowl run, and this seems to be no exception to that tradition. Vick has clearly outplayed Kolb thus far, but will take back his spot on the bench for the time being, doing what he can to help his team win games in a limited capacity.
Reid has been adamant in emphasizing that Kolb is the leader of his offense since he left last week’s game with a concussion, courtesy of Packers linebacker Clay Matthews, and it’s doubtful that will change anytime soon, even if Kolb fails to deliver the same caliber of play as Vick next Sunday.
