Jaguars make claim on Edwards

Desperate for help at quarterback, Jacksonville has made two separate moves this week to upgrade their depth chart at that position, signing free agent Keith Null to their practice squad and reportedly placing a waiver claim on Trent Edwards, who was recently released by the Bills.

Edwards was made available to teams in order of their current win-loss record, and with none of the teams sitting at 0-3 choosing to pick him up, Jacksonville was able to submit their bid for his services.

By claiming Edwards, the Jaguars will now be required to pay the remainder of his $1.65 million salary this season. It’s likely that Edwards will assume the primary backup role on the team for the time being, but if current starter David Garrard continues to struggle, Edwards could be promoted to take his place in the huddle once he’s comfortable with the playbook.
