Foot surgery to keep English out indefinitely

Already suffering from a lack of quality depth in their linebacker corps, the Chargers were hit with a major blow this morning, as linebacker Larry English had surgery to correct a problem with his foot that has hampered his ability to play at a high level since training camp.

According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, English will be out indefinitely, but for the time being, the Chargers are not expected to place him on the injured reserve list in the hopes of having him back for a late season run to the post-season.

English’s injury will likely bring more playing time to fellow linebackers Antwan Applewhite and Jyles Tucker, while San Diego waits on Shawne Merriman to return to the form he showed earlier in his career.
