Detroit running back Jahvid Best has been one of the league’s most dynamic and explosive young players, scoring four touchdowns in his first two contests before being corralled by the Vikings earlier this afternoon.
But after he left the game in Minnesota with a serious injury to his big toe, the Lions could potentially be without their newfound superstar for a few weeks, as Best has sprained his ligaments in that toe, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.
Best was unable to put any weight on the injured foot after the game, and while it could turn out to be a mild problem once it’s looked at by the Lions’ medical staff, this type of injury is similar to turf toe, which can be extraordinarily painful and long to heal properly.
Detroit is likely to hold Best out of next week’s game as a precaution, protecting one of their cornerstones from further injury. As always, we’ll keep you posted with any new information that hits the wire this week.
