Dolphins to bolster return game with Clifton Smith

Just two days removed from his surprising dismissal in Tampa Bay, return specialist Clifton Smith seems to have found a new home in Miami.

According to Jason Wilde of ESPN 540 Milwaukee, the Dolphins have reached an agreement with Smith, giving him an opportunity to stay close to home and take on a role as the primary kickoff and punt returner in Miami.

Smith also worked out for the Packers, and reportedly had an offer on the table there to handle similar duties as those he’ll have with the Dolphins.

That said, once Miami jumped into the fray, there was little doubt as to which location he’d choose, given the proximity to his current home and the much more agreeable climate in South Florida.

Smith’s acquisition is likely to push rookie cornerback Nolan Carroll and running back Patrick Cobbs into backup roles on the return units, as he is a much more established presence at that position and is capable of being a game changer when the opportunity presents itself.
