Chargers decline “last ditch” deal for Jackson

The personal vendetta between San Diego’s general manager A.J. Smith and wide receiver Vincent Jackson reached new heights this afternoon, as the Jackson’s agent Jonathan Feinsod took a shot at Smith, saying he’s known for being “the Lord of No Rings” for a reason.

The attack by Feinsod came shortly after the Chargers refused a last minute deal with the Vikings that would have allowed Jackson to come back to the field in week five and given San Diego a significant draft pick package in returm.

Now that Jackson will only be able to play as of week seven, it’s almost certain that he will spend the remainder of the season at home, missing the entire year as a result of his contract dispute before entering free agency next spring.

Minnesota will now be forced to make do with their current receiving corps, which has been lackluster thus far to say the least, until they’re able to get Pro Bowl receiver Sidney Rice back on the field. Rice is currently rehabbing his injured hip and isn’t expected to be in playing condition until week seven at the very earliest.

It’s possible that a deal could be reached prior to the October 19 deadline for trades to be completed, but given the compesation required by San Diego, the likelihood of such an agreement happening is slim to none.
