Broncos not worried about quarterback controversy

Denver quarterback Kyle Orton has been through a lot in his NFL career, making this off-season seem trivial by comparison, in spite of the pressure that’s almost guaranteed to come should he falter this year.

Instead of spending his time worrying about things outside of his control, Orton chose to focus on the skills he brings to the table for the Broncos, and his teammates are starting to take notice.

Despite all the hoopla surrounding their top pick from last April’s draft, quarterback Tim Tebow, the Broncos are resting easy at night for the time being.

Knowing who their starter at the position will be on opening day in Jacksonville, is a peaceful feeling and for a team in the midst of a significant overhaul in personnel, it’s even more comforting.

Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post recently sat down with Orton, discussing his thoughts on the team and where he fits in to the picture.

“I’m feeling great. This is still the best that I’ve felt, and I’m throwing the ball better than I ever have and mentally just playing at a high level right now.”

Orton is unquestionably the best man to lead the Broncos right now, and while that could change if he proves to be as inconsistent as he was at times last season and during his tenure in Chicago, there is little doubt that he”s ready to take on the responsibility of being at the forefront of Denver’s offense.

That level of commitment is shining through at practice each day, impressing teammates and coaches alike, and setting a solid example for both Tebow and the Broncos other off-season acquisition at quarterback, Brady Quinn, to follow.

Orton will certainly have his work cut out for him this season, as compared to last, given the departure of Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall to Miami, and injuries sustained thus far in training camp by running back Knowshon Moreno and linebacker Elvis Dumervil.

But all in all, the Broncos have to be pleased with the way Orton has prepared himself for the season, especially in light of their decision to use a valuable high draft pick on Tebow, who has brought a massive following with him to Denver that would love nothing more than to see him ascend the throne as the starter as soon as possible.
