After reports placing Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the center of a sexual assault charge in Georgia surfaced last weekend, the embattled QB fired back today, choosing to bring in high powered attorney Ed Garland to handle his legal defense team.

Garland is well known for his role in representing Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis during his 2000 murder trial, and quickly jumped to his newest client’s defense this morning, claiming the facts clearly prove Roethlisberger’s innocence in the matter.

“The facts show that there was no criminal activity. No sexual assault occurred. Ben is completely innocent of any crime.”

The case as it stands now stems from an incident involving Roethlisberger and a 20 year old college student at a local nightclub near his home on Lake Oconee. The female, who has yet to be identified publicly, is claiming the two time Super Bowl champion assaulted her at some point in the night.

Roethlisberger has not yet been charged with any wrongdoing in the matter, although local police are still investigating the allegations and will likely request a DNA sample from Roethlisberger this week. They also plan to interview him on his side of the story, although when that will take place is not yet known.

This latest incident comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed by a separate woman, who is claiming Roethlisberger raped her in a Lake Tahoe area casino-hotel in 2008. For his part, Roethlisberger is denying all wrongdoing in that case as well.
