After suffering a tough loss offensively with running back Chester Taylor skipping town to play for their rivals in Chicago, the Vikings have apparently set their immediate sights on a future Hall of Fame player to replace him next season.
According to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, there is a growing level of interest between Minnesota and LaDainian Tomlinson, who was cut loose this off-season after nine stellar seasons with the Chargers. Neither side has commented on one another to this point, but given the strength of the Vikings franchise and their definite ability to reach the Super Bowl next year, a match between the two could be to Tomlinson’s liking.
Tomlinson’s age has certainly caught up with him in recent years, and while he wouldn’t be used nearly as often, playing behind fellow All-Pro Adrian Peterson, his decline as a threat outside the backfield in the passing game could be seen as a liability for Minnesota. That said, there is no doubting Tomlinson’s desire to earn a championship ring before he retires, and it’s likely that he would accept a lesser offer from the club to have that opportunity next year.
